New Translation of The Heart of Christianity

The Marcus J. Borg Foundation has awarded a gift to Tomas von Martens, Helsinki, Finland to support the Finnish translation of Marcus’s The Heart of Christianity: Rediscovering a Life of Faith.

In 2012 Marcus visited Sweden. It was like a homecoming (Marcus is half Swedish half Norwegian). He went to Sophia Church and preached at The Great Church in Stockholm. Dean His Ulfvebrand and Gun-Britt Karisson are among those who see the energizing effect of Marcus’s “new paradigm” on a young generation of Christians and its effect on an older generation reclaiming their faith. Following Marcus’s visit von Martens published the Swedish translation of The Heart of Christianity with a forward written by Archbishop Emeritus K. G. Hammar. This translation was released in June 2015. The translation of the book’s subtitle reads: “To rediscover the Christian faith and to live a life wholeheartedly. “ We think Marcus would have liked that.

The interest in a Finnish translation followed the release of the book in Swedish. We are pleased to be able to support this work, a continuation of what was begun in 2012.

There is deep appreciation for Marcus’s work across the globe. Marcus primarily addressed the American church but it is clear that his understanding of Christianity is impacting Christians around the world. With this translation Marcus will be published in 14 languages.
