The Love of God: Unarmed and Disarming

Here is the Second Saturday Conversation for March 14, 2026 with Mark Oakley, Dean of Southwark Cathedral, London, UK.

Mark Oakley’s title for this session was The Love of God: Unarmed and Disarming.  He spoke to that in powerful ways. That stirred us. And silenced us. Mark underscored that the stories we live in are the stories we live out. Some of our stories are in need of healing. Some correction. Some need the awakening of imagination. Our stories can make us. And remake us. Beliefs can affect our lives. And our lives can upset our beliefs.  In this very moving session Mark shared personal stories and offered a powerful reflection on the parable of the Good Samaritan.  Do not let this session pass by without attention.  Mark (like Jesus) is a figurative verbal artist. Of great heart. And Spirit.  And compassion  Listen to him.  Let the light and love of this session accompany you in the days ahead.

We always say all are welcome to join Second Saturday Conversation. And that is so. But this last session unfortunately closed a door that is otherwise open. Again our apologies.  And my thanks to all of you who made time to be part of this community conversation. And who made time to meet with Mark Oakley, who keeps alive for us “the rumors of God.” And dares to make the invisible visible through a poetical view of things that capture moments of recognition and epiphany “like matches struck in the dark.”

Welcome to The Love of God: Unarmed and Disarming.
