In this session of Second Saturday Conversation Marianne challenges the outmoded and misconstrued notion of a “God of Supernatural Theism” and confesses other taken for granted beliefs she doesn’t believe in, if taken literally. She later asks the participants to reflect on four themes from the old spiritual “Motherless Child.” (A recording of Odetta’s rendition is what was played for the participants.) Feeling “motherless,” feeling like “I am almost done,” what is a “true believer,” and feeling “a long way from home.” This is the first session of a year of conversation entitled “Going Home to Another Way.”
