Second Saturday Conversation – February 10, 2024
February 10 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am
FreeStanding Together in Awe:
Four Stages in our Learning to Love the Natural World
“We are talking to our selves. We are not talking to the rivers. We are not listening to the rivers. We are not listening to the wind and stars. We have broken the great conversation.. [Evenso] The present is not a time for desperation but hopeful activity.” So writes Thomas Berry, Catholic priest and evolutionary theologian (1924-2009).
With hopeful activity in mind I am delighted to announce our guest for Second Saturday Conversation February 10, 2024, Belden C. Lane. Belden is a pastor, professor, author, lover of nature, lover of souls and like Berry a prophet to the earth.
Belden writes and speaks with a poet’s vision and humble heart drawing on the “two books tradition” of scripture and nature. With curiosity, vulnerability and playfulness Belden will turn our senses and awareness toward the living natural world, the larger sacred community of which we are a part, and also call upon voices from varied traditions to urge us to return and rejoin the great conversation. The great work required for our future.
Belden writes:
Here at the end of my academic career, I realize at last how theology must always be done, how the tradition of the saints must ever be read: over against the howling of wind in the dark of night; on a wilderness crag where beauty and danger intertwine; amid the pain and mystery of a world that dances through tears.
Belden will help us dance. Through our tears. A hopeful activity dearly needed as we urgently seek to find our way in this bewildered and fragmented world. Beldon is a master guide of both inner and outer landscape.
I look forward to sharing this time with you and Belden as he shares his journey and deep spirituality and practice.
All our gatherings are free. All are welcome. Bring along a curious friend. You must RSVP to receive a link. The links are sent out the day before and morning of. Please register now.
