For our May 9 Second Saturday Conversation I shared some quotes and phrases from our program year, from our sessions with Arthur Dewey, Jack Caputo, Brandon Scott, Mark Oakley. Not a summary as much as prompts that might evoke thoughts from you.
I began this session quoting Joan Didion that “we tell our stories in order to live,” survive…and try to make sense of our world. The Bible is the most read (or bought) collection of stories ever told. What kind of narrative is it? A prompt to reflect on when thinking or rethinking what is Christianity in and for the 21st century. Some of the phrases I shared include deep affirmations about being human and the shift from “God” as omnipotence to omnipotentiality (thank you Jack Caputo). All in an effort to help us think differently about Christianity as a “master narrative.”
This session was intended to stir our thoughts by returning to some thoughts and phrases that have arisen during our program year.
Our June 13 Second Saturday Conversation will be our closing session for this program year. Jack Caputo and Brandon Scott return to tell us about their experience of RESURRECTION. Bringing us more clarity and insight on this topic which is central to Christianity. Jack and Brandon return by popular demand! As does resurrection.
Don’t miss this session!
