Second Saturday Conversation – December 13, 2025

Register for December 13 Second Saturday Conversation
Our next Second Saturday Conversation is December 13. We have a special guest, a return guest: John D. Caputo. The nuns who taught him in grade school called him John. We get to call him Jack. Jack is the very kind of theologian he hopes for.
Jack’s knowledge of the world of thought and perception, religion and the meaning of our lived experience from a first-person perspective (which is one way Google defines phenomenology) is shaping the depths and contours of these fields in and for the 21st century. His work is important. He is important.
Jack is going to help us reflect on why it is imperative we get rid of the idea of supernatural theism once and for all. I say supernatural theism has tyrannized the theological world and the religious imagination for too long. Jack can help us think this through. And see with new eyes.
I cannot think of a better Advent season gift to us than spending time with Jack Caputo. December 13 is also St. Lucy’s feast day. The patron saint of the blind. Her attribute is the lamp. So, Jack’s date with us couldn’t be more fitting.
All of our gatherings are free. But you must RSVP to receive a link to the session. The link will be sent the day before and morning of December 13. (Be sure to check your junk/spam email if you have registered but don’t see your link sent on December 13!)
Welcome to all those who have made Second Saturday Conversation a gathering place for community, curiosity and kindness. And welcome to those who are coming for the first time. May this session shed some needed light on our path.
I look forward to being with you and Jack on December 13.
—Marianne
