Special guest Barbara Brown Taylor
Yes best selling author, a beautiful writer; yes acclaimed as one of America’s best preachers (that’s a good thing); yes, awake, compassionate and an Episcopal Priest, (it’s possible); yes, an educator par excellence, helping us seek, question, wonder in the necessary process of “dying to old boundaries in order to find new life out beyond the buoys.” Hers is a journey that required leaving home for parts unknown and an ever widening sea. Reflecting with her on her journey will help midwife our own.
Barbara is perceptive. Candid. Authentic. Lit from within. Her light provides light for our own paths.
I will be forever grateful for the light she shown upon me. She gave the homily at Marcus’s memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland in March 2015. I only wish he had been there to hear it. Perhaps he did. Reverberations of affirmation and love and blessing. Barbara Brown Taylor’s presence and work reverberates. Like a singing bowl.
It is an honor and opportunity for us to have Barbara as our guest on January 14. I will explore with her a number of topics including what she makes of Christianity in and for the 21st century. Which is what Second Saturday Conversation is all about.
