SUMMARY:Bend Group Discussion - Into the Deep\, Seeking God in the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:The Marcus J. Borg Foundation hosted author and theologian Michael Morwood in June at Trinity. Michael spoke about “Seeing Jesus through a 21st Century Lens.” There was much discussion and engagement about his thoughts\, perceptions\, and scholarship. Many wanted an opportunity to continue the conversation. We are going to do just that. \nSix gatherings have been scheduled in St. Helens Hall for Into the Deep\, Seeking God in the 21st Century (renamed from Continuing the Conversation). All are on the second Saturday of the month\, beginning November 10th\, and will begin at 9 AM. Everyone is welcome to attend\, whether or not you were able to attend the original session with Michael Morwood. \nRev. Marianne Borg\, founder of the Marcus J. Borg Foundation (sponsor for these conversations)\, and Rev. Bill Ellis co-lead these sessions. We will provide a frame for the morning and guidelines for listening. We count on your participation and learning from one another. \nOur first conversation will explore: What is progressive Christianity? What do we make of it? What questions are provoked? \nWe look forward to welcoming a diverse and ecumenical group. Get the word out to friends and neighbors who are seeking a safe\, encouraging\, thoughtful exploration of faith\, religious and spiritual experience\, and Christianity in the 21st century.

SUMMARY:Ring Lake Ranch Session
DESCRIPTION:Days of Awe and Wonder: How to be a Christian in the 21st Century is a new collection of writings by the late Marcus Borg. Using Marcus’ book we will review some of the foundational affirmations and understandings that enabled him – and so many of us — to see the person of Jesus anew and discern what is the heart of Christianity. Marcus insisted that we all apprehend and experience the Sacred\, The More\, God\, that within which we live and move and have our being. Too often\, however\, “we do not see it.” In addition to reviewing Marcus’ work\, we will reflect on our understandings of Christianity and its place in this complex\, questioning and religiously pluralistic world. We will also use the work of a variety of poets and attend to their “eloquent listening” in hopes of helping us see again and hear afresh the hope that calls to us through days of fear and trembling to days of awe and wonder. \nMarianne Borg is the widow of Marcus Borg. She is a retired Episcopal priest and Founding Chair of the Marcus J. Borg Foundation. She and Marcus have been part of the Ring Lake Ranch experience for many years\, which was a transformative environment and community for them both.
