DESCRIPTION:RSVP Here \nInto the Deep Introduction\nIn June of 2018 the Marcus J. Borg Foundation sponsored our first lecture weekend with speaker Michael Morwood. Following that event many asked us to continue to provide opportunity to explore and re-imagine what it means to be “religious\,” “spiritual\,” “Christian\,” “none\,” “other…”. We are doing just that on the second Saturday of the month in Bend. We invite you to loosen your moorings and venture with us “Into the Deep.” All are welcome. \nMarch 9th Discussion – Worldview\nMarianne Borg and Bill Ellis will continue the conversation and explore WORLDVIEW. According to the Christian liturgical year we will be in the season of Lent. Lent is a time when the question is called about what matters to us\, what we think is possible\, what we think about the human condition\, and the purpose or meaning of life. In keeping with the prompt of the season we will explore WORLDVIEW; our “philosophy of life” or concept of the world. Worldviews are not just individual. They reflect society’s understanding of life as well. We will reflect on our own view of things\, how we got there\, and how it shapes our hopes and fears. This month they will explore MYSTICISM; why it might not only be important but imperative to reexamine and redefine it. At best mysticism has been considered an experience of union with ultimate reality. More pejoratively it has been considered esoteric\, occult\, supernatural\, nebulous\, fuzzy\, privatized. Albeit a realm available to “religious specialists\,” which excludes most of us. We want to unfetter the “mystical experience” from “secret” or “hidden” knowledge and bring it into the every day. Michael spoke about “Seeing Jesus through a 21st Century Lens.” There was much discussion and engagement about his thoughts\, perceptions\, and scholarship. Many wanted an opportunity to continue the conversation. We are going to do just that. \nSix gatherings have been scheduled in St. Helens Hall for Into the Deep\, Seeking God in the 21st Century (renamed from Continuing the Conversation). All are on the second Saturday of the month\, beginning November 10th\, and will begin at 9 AM. Everyone is welcome to attend\, whether or not you were able to attend the original session with Michael Morwood. \nRev. Marianne Borg\, founder of the Marcus J. Borg Foundation (sponsor for these conversations)\, and Rev. Bill Ellis co-lead these sessions. We will provide a frame for the morning and guidelines for listening. We count on your participation and learning from one another. \nWe look forward to welcoming a diverse and ecumenical group.
