2017 in Review

As you know, Marcus was at the forefront of bringing biblical scholarship, the historical Jesus and contemporary faith together. Some called him the “C.S. Lewis of the 20th century.” Others “a Christian apologist for our time.” His clarity and insight, his focus on meaning and discerning the heart of Christianity, helped countless people see Christianity again and explore its stories and wisdom anew. Marcus corrected an assumption that Christianity is about belief not practice. He urged us to do justice, love kindness, walk humbly, and change the world for the better.

The Marcus J. Borg Foundation was established to continue to bring biblical scholarship, the historical Jesus and contemporary faith together for a realistic and meaningful Christianity for the 21st Century. Marcus has set the tone and standard.

Our primary efforts this year have included:

  • Launch of a new website which includes an official repository of Marcus’ work including video presentations
  • Our new website also encourages people to Continue the Conversation Marcus so deeply engaged in our blog
  • We post quotes from Marc’s books on Facebook five days a week
  • Created a monthly eNewsletter, Awe and Wonder, Here and Now
  • In March 2017 a collection of Marc’s writing over his lifetime entitled Days of Awe and Wonder: How to be a Christian in the 21st Century, was published by HarperOne
  • Hosted a lecture weekend with colleague and “student” of Marc’s Robin Meyers in March 2017

We thank you for being part of this work. And hope you will continue to support us as we deepen and broaden our understanding of Christianity for this 21st century.

We will keep you apprised of new efforts for 2018 which will include a new lecture event and an increase of our digital presence. And we look forward to your continued support. We rely on your gifts to keep the foundation running, if you would like to contribute, please donate now.

In gratitude,
The Marcus J. Borg Foundation, Inc.

Below is the benediction Marcus gave and lived.

Life is short. And we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Oh, be swift to love, make haste to be kind.
